Lt. Col. David Allen, Cpt. Anthony Johnson, Lt. Mike Strickland, Sgt. Mark Peebles, Sgt. Jerry Rose, Officer Joseph Russo, and Officer Tyler Goldsmith. This competition is part of the annual Virginia Association of Regional Jails Conference that was held April 24-28, 2017. The competition was held at the Chesapeake Police Training Center in Chesapeake, Virginia.

Out of those seven officers, three of them placed in their respective divisions and one of those three was the “Top Gun” shooter for the State. Sergeant Jerry Rose placed as the Master A, “Top Gun;” thus, he brought the big trophy back to Southside Regional Jail to display until next year’s competition. Captain Anthony Johnson placed Third in A Class Division. Officer Joseph Russo placed Second in C Class Division. Also, Officer Tyler Goldsmith shot in the C Class Division and was in the top five of the last round; however, he did not place.

These officers were competing against other jail officers from all over the Commonwealth of Virginia. Superintendent Karen Craig is extremely proud of all of the officers that competed in this event and of the skills and marksmanship that each of them displayed. These individuals work very hard each day, giving of their time and dedication to their job; participating in this event gave them an opportunity to utilize a small part of their training and skills in an enjoyable, competitive manner.
