Greensville County High School’s Jazlyn Jefferson repeated as 2A state champion Saturday in the long jump and 400 meter dash at East Rockingham High School. With state indoor track and field titles in the triple jump and 300 meter dash earlier this year Jefferson ends her high school career with six individual state championships.
On Saturday the senior won the long jump with a leap of 17-3. Her winning time in the 400 was 59.91, the second consecutive season she was the only 2A runner to finish the race in under a minute at the 2A state track and field championships.
Those were not the only events Jefferson scored points for the green and gold. She added a runner up and two third place finishes to score 40 points, which vaulted Greensville to fifth place in the team scores.
Jefferson crossed the finish line in the 200 meter dash in 25.85 seconds for a second place finish. Her 35-08 triple jump and 12.45 sprint in the 100 meter dash gave her third place in both events.
In the winter the senior was a starter in the post for the state runner up Greensville County basketball team. Last week Jefferson was voted by her Greensville County High School peers as the school’s Female Athlete of the Year.
Jefferson will continue running track as an NCAA Division 1 athlete at Radford University next season.
