A love story that started 62 years ago ended as it began, surrounded by family and friends. Within 62 hours, still surrounded by family and friends, James “Jim” Riley Kee, 92, of Richmond, Va., died March 28, 2019, and Martha Lee Kee, 92, died March 31, 2019. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, V.H. and Mae Hammond Kee. He is survived by brothers, V.H. Kee Jr. of Cleveland, Ohio and Joseph Kee (Peggy) of Chesapeake, Va. Martha was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie A. and Elsie T. Lee; and sister, Hattie I. Lee. She is survived by an uncle, Paul Lee of Chesapeake, Va. Both are survived by BP (back porch kitty). After graduating from Deep Creek High School, Jim served in the U.S. Army in World War II and was a graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute. After 34 years, Jim retired as Director of Agricultural Finance with the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Science. He was a member of Westmoreland Masonic Lodge 212, Richmond ACCA Temple Shrine, for almost 55 years, where he sang with the Chanters’ Unit for many of those years, Northern Neck Shrine Club and Past President of the Grassfield Ruritan Club, Chesapeake, Va. After graduating from Greensville County High School and James Madison College, Martha earned an M.A. from Virginia Commonwealth University. Martha retired from public education after “34 happy and rewarding years” as a teacher and guidance counselor. Martha was a member of Ginter Park Women’s Club, Ginter Park Garden Club, the Acca Temple Chantettes and Alpha Alpha Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma International. Both remained members of Ebenezer United Methodist Church, Oldhams, Va. They enjoyed being on the “rivah” and were members of the Lodge Creek Yacht Club. Their happiest times were spent on their boat, “The Chickadee.” Jim and Martha leave their families and special friends with lifelong memories of their love for each other and their love for us. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, April 9, at 11 a.m. in Emporia, Va., at the cemetery on Brunswick Avenue.
