Brutus L. Wright, age 91, of Woodbridge, Va. passed away peacefully on February 7, 2019.

Bruce was born in Emporia, Va. on December 23, 1927, the second son of Elic Andrew and Lucy Clarice (Hobbs) Wright.

He was raised on the family farm in Emporia. In 1946, he joined the Army and spent his career developing telephone and communications systems at bases around the world. He married Doreen Joan Van de Velde in 1953.

Their son, Peter George, was born in Tokyo, Japan, where they lived in a Quonset hut in the shadow of the Imperial Palace. Gary Lee was born in Ft. Belvoir, Va., and Janet Elizabeth (Adams) was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

He received a Bronze Star for his service in Vietnam in 1964, and retired as a Chief Warrant Officer in 1967. He later worked for the Department of Treasury. The family settled on Asdee Lane in Woodbridge, in a log cabin on five acres in the country. He later married Annabelle Trees, and they were companions for over 40 years.

He loved his boats and was a member of Potomac and Tantallon Yacht Clubs. He could repair almost anything. He was predeceased by his brothers Rudolph and Earl of Emporia, and is survived by his three children, Peter (Liz), Gary, and Janet (Mike Adams) and four grandchildren, Andrew, Emily (Chris Fauries), Ellen and Kevin, by Annabelle and her children and grandchildren, and by his brother Milton and his sister Peggy (Nichols).

He will be interred at the Arlington National Cemetery.
