Southern Virginia Regional Medical Center’s (SVRMC) board of trustees plays a vital role in shaping the future of healthcare in Emporia and the surrounding counties. Learn more about SVRMC Board Member Joseph N. Green.
The Emporia native has had two distinct careers, one in education and the other in real estate (Green & Green Building Contractors, Green Development Company, Falcon Group). On the surface they seem vastly different, but both focus on helping others.
Green attended Greensville County Public Schools and completed his B.S. degree from St. Paul’s College in Lawrenceville. He also participated in additional studies at Virginia State University in Petersburg and the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg.
Accessibility and quality have always been top priorities for Green. Growing up, he saw first-hand how the lack of affordable healthcare can devastate a community.
The need for the City of Emporia and surrounding counties to have the same healthcare opportunities as metropolitan areas is what drove Green to serve on the Greensville Memorial Hospital and SVRMC board of trustees. It is in this position, where he is able to turn that vision into reality for the community.
Green’s community service includes serving on the boards of Family YMCA of Emporia-Greensville, County of Greensville, Industrial Development Authority, Citizens United to Preserve Greensville County Training School, Pace American Bank and First Citizens Bank.
Green and his wife, Mable, have one daughter, Adrienne, and son-in-law, Lamar. The Greens are members of Royal Baptist Church where he serves on the board of deacons. A car enthusiast, Green enjoys working on his antique cars and going to car shows in Southside Virginia and eastern North Carolina.
