Bon Secours Mercy Health announced Monday it had reached an agreement to purchase Southern Virginia Regional Medical Center.
The transaction is subject to regulatory approvals and closing conditions. If approved, the transition in ownership is expected to be completed before Jan. 1. Bon Secours Mercy Health has also agreed to purchase CHS affiliates Southside Regional Medical Center in Petersburg and Franklin's Southampton Memorial Hospital.

Bon Secours Mercy Health is one of the nation's 20th most extensive health care systems. The Catholic health care ministry has health care locations in Florida, Kentucky, Maryland, Ohio, South Carolina, and Virginia. The company recently expanded into Ireland.
