The Emporia Police Department was called to Domino's at 9 p.m. Friday for a 6-month old baby who had been left in the car for a substantial amount of time.

Officers performed CPR while waiting for the rescue squad. The baby, born Jan. 19, was transported to the hospital where staff pronounced the child dead, according to Emporia Police Chief Ricky Pinksaw.

The baby is at the medical examiner office now. Detectives Jerry Wright and Jordy Finch are waiting for approval from the Commonwealth Attorney to file charges against the mother, Blondia Curry.

The chief said Curry, the mother of several kids, apparently did not drop the baby off at child care and left the newborn in the car while she went to work. She discovered the baby in the car when she got off work.
