What a packed fun filled day at the Family YMCA of Emporia-Greensville County on Saturday as the YMCA hosted held its annual Kids Fun Day. The annual event kicked off with the kids Fun Run to CVS and back to the YMCA. The participants varied in age from 3-12. Participants were given white T-shirts to have a little color splash thrown on them. This part of the event is what siblings Lauren, Abby and Caleb Moseley were mostly excited about.
“I’ve participated before but this is the first time for the color splash” said Lauren.
The kids took off full of energy as others did their best trying to keep up and get back to the finish line. Parents as well as the kids were proud of their accomplishment. Next was the 5K walk/run. As the adults prepared themselves to begin, Lance Futrell, program director at the YMCA, reminded everyone of the rules, regulations. This was Elnora Faison’s first time participating.
“I am really excited to be apart of and support such a wonderful event.” she said. After completing the event Faison said with a huge smile “I had a wonderful time. I even had the color thrown on me and already looking forward to coming back again next year.”
Rochelle Tyler agreed with Taylor. It was also his first time competing.
“I really enjoyed myself and will certainly participate again next year if the weather permits.” he said.
Participants from both races received gold medals for completing the race.
Shortly after the 5K race was over participants began enjoying the annual Healthy Kids Day.
“The YMCA’s purpose for this event is bring awareness to the community and help improve healthy living and well being regardless of age, income or background.” said Futrell.
