Twenty-nine year old Nestor D. Cardona-Moreno, of Woodside, N.Y. was taken into custody at 10:29 p.m. Tuesday following a nearly 13-hour manhunt in the Otterdam Rd. area of Greensville County.

The suspect was located by a Virginia State Police Canine team.

According to Sgt. Michelle Anaya, of the Virginia State Police, a Virginia State Trooper notified the Communications Center of a traffic stop on Interstate 95 at exit 13, which resulted in a foot pursuit of the male driver. The 2009 Nissan Altima was stopped for a routine traffic infraction.

“During the course of the traffic stop, the trooper attempted to detain the driver of the vehicle, Mr. Cardona-Moreno, when the driver assaulted the trooper and fled on foot,” Anaya said in a press release. “Multiple resources along with the local Sheriff’s Department assisted the State Police in searching for the suspect in the Greensville area of I-95 and Otterdam Rd.”

The Greensville County Sheriff’s Office put the notice of a search for the suspect on its Facebook page. Sheriff W.T. Jarratt reported the suspect’s capture in a late Tuesday evening Facebook post. Cardona-Moreno was taken into custody in Greensville County and has been charged with felony obstruction and felony assault of a law enforcement officer. Further charges are pending after Commonwealth case review.
