Every year, in Greensville County, the hard work of Chowan Basin Soil and Water Conservation District pulls together a Day on the Farm at the home of Jesse and Susan Harrell.

Also, every year, the FFA club at E.W. Wyatt Middle School volunteers their time to assist with the event. The young men and women perform various duties that include stuffing almost 200 bags for all of the students and teachers that visit the farm and 12 stations of information. This year Jennifer Coker of Chowan Basin SWCD set up a puppet show for the FFA students to present to the third-grade students at Greensville Elementary School and the YMCA preschool. The members also act as tour guides, leading classes of students to each station. When asked about this year’s at Day on the Farm, FFA President, Blair Dickens said it was great.

“It was a lot of fun to watch the faces of the kids during the puppet show,” Dickens said. “ I can’t believe how much information they received at each of the stations. As an FFA member, we really like to help in our community, and agriculture is a big industry here in Greensville County. This was perfect for our club.”

Students in FFA also participate in GES Read with a Buddy, a favorite is Pet day at the local nursing homes, an annual trip to the state fair, leadership meetings, and the FFA State Convention.
