The Family Violence and Sexual Assault Unit (FVSAU) is hosting Shades of Purple Sunday Evening Jazz at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, 2019, at Golden Leaf Commons.

This event is to raise funds to assist the agency with housing, relocation and other expenses for individuals trying to get out of a domestic and/or sexual abusive situation.

The major Sponsors are Owen Ford of Jarratt and Greene’s Service INC. Emporia Muffler. Sponsors are businesses that donated at least $500 to offset the expenses for the Jazz music event.

Can you image having to leave your home with just the clothes you have on, no food, money or personal items, and not knowing where you will sleep that night, with two, three or more children? Well, that is what happens to many of the people the FVSAU serves.

The Family Violence and Sexual Assault Unit (FVSAU) is an agency that advocates for individuals who are affected by sexual and domestic violence. We offer services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The agency serves Emporia, Lawrenceville, Brunswick and Sussex, VA. A total of 55 individuals were served in June and 52 individuals for the month of July. Recently the agency added a Child Advocacy Center.

The FVSAU Child Advocacy center is committed to utilizing a coordinated and collaborative multidisciplinary approach to minimize trauma and improve outcomes for child victims of physical, sexual abuse, and neglect through case coordination, treatment, advocacy and education.

Please purchase a ticket for this evening of music and food. Dinner is included. Tickets are $50 a couple and $30 a single. Tickets are available at FVSAU, 401-C South Main St., Emporia.
