On May 20 at 9:34 p.m., the Emporia Police Department received a call of gunshots fired in the 400 block of West End Blvd.
Police officers questioned a person who they believe was the target of the shots, but the person refused to cooperate. The investigation led to the charging of a 17-year-old local juvenile with possession of a firearm under 18 years of age, discharging a firearm in a public place and reckless handling of a firearm.
He was arrested on May 21 during a separate investigation, and placed in a juvenile detention facility until his hearing.
On May 21 at 5:42 p.m., officers received a report that shots were fired during an argument at the CYC basketball court on Knox St. An investigation revealed that the same juvenile in the above case had committed these offenses. The gun used in these offenses was recovered and seized. Officers will be charging him with the same offenses as in the previous incident.
On May 21, between 10:05 p.m. and 10:30 p.m., officers received calls of gunshots fired in the area of Cartwright Ct. They determined the shots had entered a window and siding of an apartment.
An investigation led to officers obtaining a search warrant on May 24 for an apartment on Russell Ln. Greensville and Brunswick Sheriff’s Office Tactical Entry teams were used to execute the search warrants. Officers arrested the resident, Detroit Harrison, 22, and charged him with reckless handling of a firearm, discharging a firearm in a public place, shooting into an occupied dwelling, and possession of marijuana.
He is being held at Southside Regional Jail under a $3,500 bond.
