Although the series of 32 local historic miniatures have been offered by the Riparian Woman’s Club for many years they have never been available for these prices.

Even the newest miniature, the Emporia Police Department, is on sale, with all 32 miniatures from previous years offered at substantial savings.

The Emporia-Greensville Chamber has the miniatures at its office at 400 Halifax St. You can purchase any miniature for $10, or three miniatures for $25.

The Emporia Police Department was built in 1954 for the Fire and Police Departments, City Municipal offices and the court.  For many years the Emporia Police and Volunteer Fire Departments shared the building until a new Volunteer Fire Department was built in 1997.

Major remodeling of the old brick building was completed in January 1998 and the Emporia Police Department continues to occupy the building on Budd Street.

Miniatures of the Emporia Auditorium, Pitts Theater, Village View, The Virginia Hotel, old Emporia Elementary School on Main Street, E. W. Wyatt Middle School, the Emporia Diner, Greensville County Court House, Greensville County Clerk’s Office, Citizens National Bank, Emporia Armory, Emporia Post Office, Emporia Volunteer Fire Department, Emporia Water Tower, Emporia-Greensville Historical Society (Merchants & Farmers Bank), Jarratt High School, Masonic Temple, New York Restaurant, Greensville Memorial Hospital, Greensville Volunteer Rescue Squad, and the old Greensville County High School are all now priced at $10 each.

Church miniatures include Calvary Baptist Church, Christ Episcopal Church, First Presbyterian Church, Main Street Baptist Church, Main Street United Methodist Church, Monumental United Methodist Church, Royal Baptist Church, and St. John Lutheran Church. The miniatures are on display and can be purchased at the Emporia-Greensville Chamber of Commerce.

The Riparian Woman’s Club’s popular book, Sketches of Greensville County, Virginia, Second Edition 1650-2000 is available from the Richardson Memorial Library or from Ewing. Sketches is $15 each. Contact Jean Cobb at (434) 594-9673 or Jenny Holtkamp (515) 201-3761.
