Sussex County Sheriff Ernest Giles has made another important community service addition to the department.

“I had multiple citizens ask if we could put a drug collection box at the sheriff’s office,” Giles explained. “The DEA does a pill takeback once or twice a year, but I decided that we would make it available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m., so citizens can have this service available all the time.”

“Our office is continually trying to be more community oriented,” he continued. “Trying to make things less stressful and more convenient. This way people can get unwanted drugs out of the house, plus there’s less chance of a break in if they know that there are no unwanted pills in a residence.”

Anyone having questions about how this service is invited to call the Sheriff’s Office at (434) 246-5000 and ask for Sgt. James Shanko or Jessica Harrison.
